After a relentless follow up by SUGRUHA with BBMP to make them accept the responsibility of lifting garbage from apartment complexes, BBMP has agreed to lift our garbage but only if it is segregated as per BBMP guidelines. Till now, we have been paying private contractors who have been irresponsible in handling the waste.

As a community we have a moral and civic obligation that our garbage, which can be recycled and managed by ourselves, should not be dumped in some landfill perpetually.

Residents will be solely held accountable for violation of these requirements. We cannot pass the blame to our maids. It is our job to instruct and train our maids. Only if any maid violates specific instructions, then she will be banned from entering South City.

Segregation policies have been communicated through our Notice dated 8-Nov-2012; strict implementation of the following disposal policy will come into effect from 18th Dec, 2012.

    • ‘Wet waste’ – should be put in a paper made bag and disposed, or can be directly disposed in the bin marked for wet waste. (SUGRUHA is exploring sources for supply for suitable paper bags; but that will not delay the implementation of disposal policy.)
    • ‘Sanitary waste’ – should be wrapped in newspapers, marked with red cross (X), and if brought down in plastic bag then after emptying the bag in the bin marked for Sanitary waste the plastic bag should be disposed in the Dry waste-bin, provided the plastic bag is not soiled.
    • ‘Dry waste’ – non-recyclable dry waste like wood, rexine, rubber, shoes, wire, cloth, rags, thermocol, used mops, mud pots, broken glass, etc. should be dropped in the Dry Waste bin kept at each block.
    • Recyclables Dry Waste, viz., paper, all types of plastic, cartons, metals, glass bottles should be brought down to your collection point every Wednesday (B1-B9), or Saturday (B10, C and D Clusters) for recycling.
    • ‘e-Waste’ – please hold e-Waste at your place till we notify collection process for those, or drop those in designated e-Waste collection centers around the city.
    • ‘Rubbish’ – ashes, broken bricks, mortar and non-recyclable waste – should be disposed off through your contractor who generated those at your own cost.
    • Non compliance of segregation and disposal policy will not be tolerated – garbage will be returned back.

Appropriate social forum will be used to name new entrant to Hall of shame.
